Florence Elizabeth Bryson

Florence Elizabeth Bryson, 97 years of age, of Winchester, Ohio, passed away on July 7, 2026. She was born in Winchester, on May 13, 1929, the second daughter of Hiram McDonald Byrson and Clara (nee Hanrahan) Bryson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Lucy, who died on June 1, 2011, and her brother Hudson, who died in April, 1986, and her infant brother, Phillip McDonald, who lived for two months. Florence led a full and productive life. She worked in Winchester for Ohio Bell for twenty-eight years and transferred to Dayton in 1980, where she was a maintenance administrator for a total of thirty-four years. But Winchester was always her home. She was a lifetime member of the Winchester United Methodist Church, which she joined when she was only twelve years old. She faithfully served as Church Historian until the time of her death, and her dedication to maintaining the Church archives will be sorely missed. She and her sister Lucy were snowbirds in Florida for several years after Florence's retirement. They traveled together to Mexico, Canada, and fourteen European countries. Her hobby was always genealogy. She wrote Winchester Happenings and Winchester Past for the People's Defender for around twenty-five years. Florence was active in the Homecoming Festival (formerly known as the Caramel Festival). She belonged to the Adams County Historical Society and to the Genealogical Society. She was registered in the Sovereign Colonial Society of Americans of Royal Descent., the National Society of Magna Carta Dames, the Colonial Order of the Crown, the National Society of Colonial Dames, Sixteenth Century, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she was a Kentucky Colonel. Florence is survived by her cousins Gary and Brenda Crigler, David and Lily, Cathy and Larry McGonegle, all of Cincinnati, and Meg Breen, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, as well as several other cousins. Graveside services will be held at the Winchester Cemetery, on Friday, July 10, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am. Greg Roberts will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, Florence requested that memorial donations be made to the Winchester United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 123, Winchester, Ohio 45697.
