Jean Ann Gardner

Jean Ann Gardner, 88 years of age, of Peebles, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center, in Seaman, Ohio. Jeanne was born on August 27, 1937, in Rarden, Ohio, the daughter of Glenn and Evelyn (Wallace) Gardner. After graduating from Peebles High School, Jeanne married Harold Dean Hoop in 1954 and had three daughters, Tangela Lynn Pettygrove, of Peebles; Joni Jill Bergs, of Sarasota, Florida; and Christi Beth Countryman-Dick, of Peebles. Jeanne worked as a hair stylist for many years in Cincinnati and as a real estate agent. Later in life, she owned an appliance repair company and after many successful years, made the decision to retire and move back to Peebles to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She became a beloved member of the community with so many people having wonderful stories of their friendships and encounters with her. She was very creative. Her wonderful flare for decorating meant that she always surrounded herself with beauty. She loved her little dogs and cats, which were her constant companions. She loved to cook and feed her neighbors and friends. She also adored her grandchildren and spoke of them daily. She had a host of lifetime friends who called and visited her often. She was loved by her neighbors who helped in the last years of her life by visiting with her and checking on her. Jeanne was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Orville and Ocha (Hoffer) Wallace; and her parents, Glenn and Evelyn Gardner, her ex-husband, Dean Hoop; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to her sisters, Sondra Blair, of Cincinnati; and Betty Jo Glover, of Mt. Orab; Jeanne is survived by her three daughters. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Sterling (Kent) Berglund, of Switzerland; Remington (Britt) Pettygrove, of Chicago; Chesten (Austin) Countryman-Kephart; Kati (Jon) McIntire, of Seaman; and Kennedy Dick, of Cincinnati. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration and remembrance of Jeanne's life will be held at a later date.
