Ralph "Ed" Edward Huck

Ralph Edward "Ed" Huck, age 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 17, 2026 at the Ohio Valley Manor in Ripley, Ohio. Ed was born February 22, 1942 in Winchester, Ohio, the only child of Ralph and Gladys (Jordan) Huck. Growing up on a farm, he learned to appreciate nature and developed a love of plants and animals that followed him throughout his entire life. During his 12 years in 4-H, he took many projects to the local and state fairs, and, as an adult, continued showing his prize Holstein cattle receiving numerous honors including the Southwest Holstein Award. He also fell in love with sheep and was a member of the National Suffock Association for 15 years. He shared this love with the youth of Brown County by serving as a Jr. Fair Board advisor for both the dairy and sheep departments for 10 years. Ed attended school at Winchester and Fincastle and graduated from Sardinia High School in 1960. He continued his education by attending The Ohio State University, Morehead State University and Florida State University receiving his degrees in Ag Economics, English and Psychology respectively. Ed worked for the Eastern Local School District for 34 years teaching College Prep English to juniors and seniors and, in his later years, served as the guidance counselor. Many of his students would tell you that he was their guidance counselor long before he held the title, taking them on college visits, helping with applications, and encouraging them to reach for their dreams. Ed was vested in his students hosting an exchange student from Finland, and serving as the advisor for the National Honor Society and Future Teachers of America organizations. He coached FFA students on the dairy judging team and helped with their public speaking competitions. While teaching, he served as the president of the Eastern Local Education Association. He was a member of the National Teachers Association, National Men's Honorary, and Who's Who Among High School Students. After his retirement, he worked at Southern State Community College as a financial aid advisor for 10 years continuing to help students reach for their dreams. He was a member of Sardinia Hope Church (formerly Sardinia United Methodist Church), and served as a youth director there for many years. His love of nature continued through his gardening skills, raising some of the most beautiful hibiscus, dahlias, day lilies, tomatoes, and over the years, having his faithful Saint Bernard, Great Pyrenees, and Jack Russel dog companions around. Ed was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by cousins Brenda Wagner of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathryn Jordan and Karen (Charles) Niuman both of Aurora, Illinois and numerous friends whose lives he touched and who also touched his. Ed dedicated his life to education, always wanting to learn and share knowledge, and that continues in his death as he has donated his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Ed guided many of his students to further their education and was instrumental in creating a scholarship to support graduates from Eastern High School in doing so. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the Sardinia Hope Church, 105 S. Main St. Sardinia, Ohio on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 4:00.
